Our History

The Settlers Arms Hotel, Dungog: A historic haven since 1848, blending heritage and hospitality.

About |

Settlers Arms was established in 1848. Originally located in Dowling Street, it was relocated to the present site in the 1853. Most of the bricks used were made by convicts. The ‘new’ part of the building, that is located closest to Lord Street, dates back to 1891. In 1901, Settlers Arms became The Courthouse Hotel and was known as such up until 2005 when it once again became, Settlers Arms.

Originally built as a resting point for travelers, the hotel played a vital role in the region’s development. Over the years, it evolved from a simple inn to a hub of social activity and a gathering place for locals and visitors alike. The hotel’s historic architecture and charm offer a glimpse into Dungog’s history, while its enduring hospitality ensures it remains a beloved establishment. Today, the Settlers Arms Hotel stands as a living connection to the area’s vibrant heritage.
